Bible Overview: Genesis Part 1
The Old Testament
The OT covers the period from creation all the way up to about 400 years before Jesus.
Books of Moses
The first 5 books that you run into when you open your bible are called “The books of Moses”. Because He wrote them. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. These books are also called the Pentateuch. Penta meaning “five” teuch meaning “books”. Five books.
There are a lot of people who will tell you that Moses didn’t write these books. They come up with all sorts of theories about who wrote them. Theologians get their PhD’s for writing about this stuff. If you are a Christian who believes that Jesus spoke the truth, then you have better scholarship than these theologians with their 7 year degrees. Why? Because, Jesus quotes from all five books and He says that Moses wrote them. And if you don’t believe what Jesus, God in the flesh, said then you’ve got bigger problems than who wrote the books.
