Does Chuck Norris Exist?

With all the hype on the internet surrounding Chuck Norris, some have sought to prove the actual existence of Chuck. Doug Beaumont has taken on this challenge. This totally cracked me up.

The Existence of Chuck Norris
© Doug Beaumont 2006

Objection 1. It seems that Chuck Norris does not exist; because if one of two contraries be infinite, the other would be altogether destroyed. But the word "Chuck Norris roundhouse kick" means that it is infinite painfulness. If, therefore, Chuck Norris existed, there would be no evil discoverable; but there is evil in the world. Therefore Chuck Norris does not exist.

On the contrary, It is said of Chuck Norris: "He hath counted to infinity – twice." (www.chucknorrisfacts.com)

Immigration and Math

In honor of all the immigration concerns and issues (like this one Mexican flag flies at a public school) I thought I'd post this little math thingy that's been around the internet.

Teaching Math In 1950:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1960:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1970:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?

Teaching Math In 1980:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment:

Underline the number 20.

Teaching Math In 1990:

By cutting down beautiful forest trees, the logger makes $20. What do you think of this way of making a living?

Topic for class participation after answering the question:

How did the forest birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down the trees.

(There are no wrong answers.)

Teaching Math In 2010:

El hachero vende un camion carga por $100. La cuesta de production es………….

What happened at the council of Nicea?

In response to the Da Vinci Code coming out in May, I figured I'd throw down a little info about what Nicea was.

Once upon a time, oh on July 19 325 AD about 10:30 in the morning, the first church council was called (second if you count Acts 15). For 300 years the christian church had been persecuted, christians were dipped in pitch and set on fire as living candles for Nero, people were sewn into animal carcasses and ravaged by lions, people were tortured and persecuted and it was not good times.

Then Constantine fights and wins control over the whole roman empire. Since he attributed his win to the Christian God, he issues the edict of toleration which basically says it's okay to be a Christian.

Well, dang, this was a new turn for the early church. They were so used to hiding in cellars and being tortured that it was weird to be able to openly and actively proclaim the name of Jesus.

That’ll be $4000 dollars. Pay at the first window!

Alright, we all eat at a fast food place now and then. Sometime's I'll even kick in the extra 30 cents to supersize. But the only way I'd kick out 4G's on fries is if those fries are gold plated baby. And I'd need some diamond teef to eat them with. Bling Bling!

But when George went through the drive through, his $4 meal came out with the decimal moved over a wee bit. Read the story here: $4,334.33 for burgers busts bank account

When George found out his bank account was cleaned out he said "No, not now!" My question is: Is there ever a good time to drop 4000 bones on lunch?

Maybe on Tuesday, but today just isn't a good day…

Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkerson

Note: I originally wrote this article in October 2001.
On March 5, 2001 a little book was introduced by Dr. Dobson on the radio show "Focus on the Family" called "Prayer of Jabez". In the May 2001 Focus on the Family newsletter, Dr. Dobson felt a sense of urgency that he hadn't felt since the beginning of Focus on the Family as a result of his interview with Bruce Wilkerson,

"There have been only two occasions in the history of Focus on the Family when I felt this urgency from the Lord. The other dates back to the beginning of the ministry, when the plight of unborn children was heavy on my heart." (May 2001 newsletter)

The Prayer of Jabez was actually published last year but it wasn't until March that the book really took off.

Since then, this book has been splashed across newspaper headlines and has caused quite a bit of division among not only denominations but individual churches as well.

While many churches and Christians are excited about the book, many non-Christian newspapers seem less enthused.

Hack your windows address bar!

Hack your windows address toolbarWe all have this address toolbar thing down at the bottom of our windows machines. Most of us don't use it. So why not hack it and make it useful?

If you have a web service you use a lot, you can create a shortcut to that service.

For example, most people use Google to search the internet and Google uses a standard address format to search for things, so you can shortcut that format into the windows address bar.

So open notepad and type (or cut and paste):

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl\gg]

Intelligent Design article

Check it out: Why intelligent design will change everything

Not a bad little article describing what ID is all about. It's not about religion vs science, but good science vs bad science. I'll write more about this sort of thing when I have more time and the inclination.

If you've never heard of Scientific Dissent from Darwinism then check out the pdf file of these guys credentials. Pretty impressive dudes.

Temple Mount closed to tourists!

According to World Net Daily: Jews, Christians shut from Temple Mount

I was just standing there couple of weeks ago and got to say that a trip to Israel and not being able to go to the temple mount would have been poopy. It's definitely an experience.

To get to the western wall or even to the temple mount you have to go through pretty strict security. They've got metal detectors and some loaded guards there to make sure nothing funky goes down. Homeboy's don't play.

The elections that are going on are for Prime Minister of Israel. They have a president, but the president is just this guy you know? He doesn't really do anything other than to make sure he stays neutral in all political decisions, but I guess he's there to appoint people to office and stuff like that. He's more of a figure head than a power mover.

The main guy is the Prime Minister, he's the guy that makes the decisions and whatnot. There's also the Knesset which is like parlament.

I guess all the elections are coming up this week. According to Ronny, about 95% of the people come out to vote compare that to the 50% or whatever it is in this country. They take their right to vote very seriously over there.

That's cool.

Paul vs James – faith or works?

A lot of people are confused when they read the letters of Paul and the letter of James. Paul says we’re saved by faith and not through works, but James says that we need works. So who’s right?

Let’s look at the two passages that come up most frequently because the context of these letters is very important.

Limbo – how low can you go?

The Scotsman news service on Nov 30, 2005 reported that the Pope is looking to abandon the dogma of Limbo.

Limbo is the idea that unbaptised babies (who can't go to heaven, but aren't bad enough to go to hell) just go to this nowhere / nothing place for eternity. For the last 1500 years or so, the Roman church has pushed this dogma on it's members – the result being members rushing out to get their new born babies baptised to avoid this horrible fate for their child.

It'll be interesting to see whether or not this new pope can just wipe away 1500 years of dogma.
